Most people who enter into politics do so to make a difference. However, many individuals who end their stay in office leave with the feeling of not having accomplished anything. While this may be the case for many men, it is not the case for Daniel Taub.
Dainel Taub has been acting as the United Kingdom’s Israeli ambassador for the last 4 years, and in those years he has made consequential strides in improving relations between the two nations.
Around the time that Daniel Taub began his time as the Israeli Ambassodor, many students from Britains largest student union voted to boycott all trade with Israel. At best this would have resulted in halting positive relations between the two nations. Read more: Daniel Taub | Wikipedia
It likely would have resulted in large scale tensions between Israel and the United Kingdom. This obviously made Daniel Taub’s position as the Israeli ambassodor difficult to say the least.
Despite these obstacles, Daniel Taub was able to drastically improve relations between the two nations during his four years as ambassodor. During that time he was able to double the trade between the United Nation and Israel. According to the most recent report, 7 billion worth of trade has been done bilaterally between the UK and Israel. Daniel Taub is credited for entering the UK and Israel into a golden era of trade.
Taub himself related that he feels that the business, cultural, and accademic link between the UK and Israel have been strengthened. It is hard to believe that a nation, that just a few years ago was voting to boycott trade with Israel entirely, now has such a positive relationship with the country.
Daniel Taub truly made a difference in the four years he spent as ambassador. As of right now there has been no successor named to replace Taub upon his conclusion as Ambassador. We can only hope that whoever does succeed him will continue to improve relations with Israel.
Regardless of what happens next, we are grateful to Daniel Taub for the work he has done. He not only avoided cultural tension, but promoted unity where no one expected to find it.
